The project area spans over 165,700 hectares of the critically important eastern Amazon biome and includes forested land within 36 individually titled properties, totaling more than 182,000 hectares.

Portel and its neighboring municipality are among the poorest regions in Brazil, with an average daily income of $3 USD per person; in the project's vicinity, the income is less than $2 USD per day.

Approximately 50% of Portel's population lives in rural areas, with their primary sources of income being wood extraction and subsistence farming, particularly cassava cultivation.

The project's objective is to demonstrate the economic feasibility of preserving forests in regions that are highly resistant to conservation efforts, where illegal logging is rampant, and it is socially acceptable to convert forests into agricultural land.
